Dive with us ~ We get it!

6-Paq fulfills the owner/ operator’s dream. A dream that began to take shape when she made her first blue water dive in the Caribbean in 1989 ~ That was all it took! On that day she knew that one day she would move to the islands to teach, take people diving and start her own shop.

6-Paq offers scuba the way we like to dive, nice and easy, at our own pace. We do a full or partial day outing that can include skin dives if you'd like. We love to stop at our favorite watering holes on the way back to chill out and chat with our guests! We also know that everyone has their own idea, so if you'd like something different, we’ll help you create your ideal diving day!

Colette Diede

Owner/Instructor/Divemaster:

I've been diving for over 20 years now, hard to believe! The last 8 years I've been in St John, USVI teaching Scuba, (PADI and NAUI), taking people out on charter dives, and the first years when i got here tending bar.  Not sure how, but everyone seems to pick up on the tending bar!  It was alot of fun and met alot of great people... The first 2 years I dovefor other shops, since then I've been teaching and doing charter fun dives privately for both locals and visitors.

I tailor my instructional style and our charter dives to meet individual diver needs while providing high-end customer service. I'll go the extra mile to make the boat outings fun and special, or to help students overcome learning difficulties and work through issues impeding their progress. Up til now with the website and new brochures, my clients have been all word of mouth referrals, those who've happened to meet me or repeat customers.

Our clients return with their family and friends, year after year!

After getting my engineering degree from a small, quality college, South Dakota School of Mines, I managed Environmental Restoration, and Water Resources Studies in California for 10 years. I even did some wellsite geology in Montana right after college.  That was COLD!

is this sand... OR SNOW?

Southern Sting Ray under sand, or is it SNOW???
(nust be missing home!)

Then I took the plunge ~ decided to follow my heart, simplify life and move to the islands. I got my SCUBA Divemaster and Instructor ratings (NAUI and PADI), became a yoga instructor and learned to deal blackjack and bartend. My plan was that with the 4 skills I'd always find work in the islands! It’s worked out pretty well for me, and its been alot of fun!

Customer Comments!

“The Discover Scuba folks were highly complimentary of your training and guidance, and now potentially hooked on diving! The non-diver boat had an equally great time * while seeing even more of the USVI‘s private beaches, and celebrity escapes. They even saw more pelagic life than the divers! What a great day.” Brannon Wait, Toyota Group

.“The reef dives were great and Rhone trip amazing. It was one of our week’s highlights“. Klippels

“THANKS FOR A GREAT WEEK! We had a fabulous time diving with you. Tommy has become a much better diver under your watchful eye.” Marie and Tom Kellet.

What our divers say about us!!!

diving st john with 6 paq scuba

"I dove with Colette and it was great. My girl friend had gotten certified elsewhere and her final dive was a nightmare. The seas were rough and the boat was pitching so much that the dive ladder was rising and falling about 5 feet with each swell but it was now or never and she did it. It left her with a great deal of concern at her next dive but that dive was with Colette. We went to a nice quiet secluded beach. Colette reminded up of all the things that we needed to do and then quietly watched us do them. We simply waded out into the little bay, double checked everything and then slowly descended by swimming out near the bottom. It was great and all of my girlfriend's fear was gone!"

Chris, LA

Last summer I earned my dive master certification through Colette. She was extremely patient and attentive. I learned more from her then I could possibly have from anywhere else. By diving with Colette I was also introduced to some of the best dive sites on St. John, which the other dive companies do not go to. She is the best!!

happy diving st john

I'd like to say that some of the best experience that I have had diving is with 6-Paq Scuba and has been amazing. I have learned so much and glad to have you as a teacher. St. John shore dives are always filled with great experiences and the stop at Skinnies completes the day.  Do keep up the good work and keep the bubbles flowing! 6-Paq Scuba all the way.

FAQ's

How did you get started?

During my Water Safety Instructor class in North Dakota in the 80’s! They let us take turns diving with only a regulator and tank, no mask, no BC. That first underwater lap, I was in heaven, able to breathe underwater and stay down as long as I wanted! It still amazes me! I got certified the first thing after college.

What's your favorite diving activity?

I love teaching SCUBA. It’s such fun to introduce someone else to the underwater environment I love, to help them relax and discover the freedom and weightlessness that I’ve only experienced with scuba. Skiing comes close, but diving is a whole new world!

What do you like so much diving?

I love the feeling of being one speck on in a new beautiful, calm, colorful world. My favorite dives are wall dives. There’s nothing like being along a wall of coral, looking into the deep blue, turning upside down and watching the bubbles float up like you’re in the bottom of a champagne glass. It’s a feeling of awe like looking at the stars!

Diving St. John... Like Lying in the bottom of a champagne glass watching the bubbles float up!

Where was your most memorable dive and why?

Santa Rosa Wall in Cozumel. It was my first wall and Caribbean dive. I remember swimming over the wall like I was free-falling into the deep blue. I turned beside me and the coral wall seemed to go forever. It looked like a Monet painting. 10 years later after diving tons of places, I dove it again and found it’s still a favorite!

What's the most exotic place you've dove?

Nowhere out of the ordinary ~ Mexico, Caribbean, Hawaii. Unless you count inspection dives. As an engineer in CA and NV, I inspected dams and canals for 3 years before seeing blue water. We’re talking 0-8 inch visibilty, 55 degree water, tricky entries--we’d walk ½ mile in gear or repel 10-80 feet down sliperry canal or rocky dam side slopes, and back up again afterwards! Once a year they’d bring in the guys who write the diving textbooks, Jeff Bozanic, Dennis Graver, Steve Barsky for specialty training, cave/cavern diving, photo, video, to name a few.

One year we trained at the USC Catalina Marine Station, where i did my first blue water dive. It was unbelievably fabulous! When I got home I immediately booked my first Caribbean trip, Cozumel. When I saw that water, I promised myself that someday I’d move down and start my own dive shop. It took me 10 years to move here, now I'm doing it!

 (rather be diving!)

What would you most like to tell others about diving?

Diving should be easy, if you're struggling, think about taking a refresher class, an advanced class, or something like peak performance buoyancy with a good instructor.

Learning should also be relatively stress free. There are so many open water students who struggle initially with the feeling of losing control. Find an instructor who will and is able to take the time to help you work through everything.

What makes you a good dive Teacher?

People seem to respond to my teaching style. I try to move at my student’s pace, keeping them in their comfort zone to the extent you can when they’re going underwater or taking their mask off for the first time! If I’m taking people diving, if they seem interested I try to “coach” them so their diving becomes a little easier, smoother, whether its entries, or moving underwater. I care, and people respond.
